Puppy Training Course

Educating puppy/owner to the importance of socialisation within the sensitive period of development.

We use positive reward method techniques only. Appropriate experiences with humans, other animals, environments, noises and everyday occurrences are essential for appropriate behaviour traits to become established.

The class will be a block course of 4 weeks. Each week is a combination of training and how to tackle issues such as play biting, toilet training, basic commands, learning to be left alone and chewing etc.

All puppy training sessions are currently held in our indoor arena based at Pride Veterinary Centre on Pride Park.

Puppy Training

At a glance

Week 1

The first week is for our new puppy owners. You will be shown a presentation, and can listen to advice on puppy behaviour. You will have the opportunity to ask questions too, without having to worry about what your puppy is up to.

Week 2

The main purpose of this session is to get your puppy used to the environment.

The aim is for you to understand how your puppy displays their emotions and how to increase your puppy’s ability to cope in different situations. We also start the journey of command training by teaching a down position and working on recall skills.

Week 3

Your puppy will continue their training journey of basic commands, and have an opportunity to learn appropriate social skills. We will also continue to cover more complex recall training to ensure your puppy is going to come back when called in busy environment.

Week 4

For your puppy's last week we will look at the next stage of your puppy’s development into adolescence, and how to cope with this challenging phase of a puppy’s life. We will encourage your puppy to walk politely on their lead, next to you. Your puppy will also receive a certificate, to show just how much they have achieved during their training course.
