Freya Trewhella

Freya is our Registered Veterinary Nurse at our Oakwood site. She works full time here and has been at our Oakwood site for just over a year after spending one year at our Pride Park site. She qualified in 2021 after gaining a FdSc degree in Veterinary Nursing at Hartpury University, and she is looking at completing a nutrition and/or consultation certificate in the next year. 

Freya is mainly interested in nutrition and education. Nutrition is a big interest of hers (she has appeared on ITV News representing Scarsdale Vets to discus pet weight management) as there are so many different pet diets out there and it can often be a minefield when owning a pet, so as well as being able to advise owners on good diets and what should be going into your pet, being able to explain why is also so important to Freya. This then leads the education part of her interests. Freya loves being able to advise and teach pet owners about their animals in new pet checks, health checks, and weight checks, and also teach the younger generation about what we do and why we do it by visiting schools. In saying this, Freya does love all parts of her job, including anaesthetics and inpatient care! 

Freya is a keen rescuer of guinea pigs and at the moment she has 10 guinea pigs! One day she would love to have a big shed where she would be able to rescue more. As well as the piggies, Freya has a six-year-old rottweiler called Scooby who she also rescued four years ago. Over her life so far, Freya has owned and fostered various animals including cats, kittens, rabbits, hedgehogs and birds, and in total have owned over 50 rescue guinea pigs! In her spare time, she loves going for walks in the countryside, spending time with friends and travelling to new places.
