Francis Boyer

Veterinary Surgeon

Francis Boyer - Veterinary Surgeon
Francis Boyer MA VetMB CertSAM MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon

Francis graduated from Cambridge in 1997, after which he worked in a mixed practice for two years where he got to treat a wide range of small and large species. He soon realised that his interest lay with smaller companion animals, so moved to Leeds in 1999 where he worked for Whitecross Vets before joining Scarsdale Vets in 2002.

He gained his Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2003 and became a Partner in 2006.

Francis enjoys all aspects of first opinion practice from meeting new pets at their first vaccination through to managing sick animals in the hospital. While he still likes the opportunity to get into theatre and carry out routine surgery, his passions are Internal Medicine and Imaging. He is also responsible for setting up the radioiodine treatment service for cats with hyperthyroidism at Pride Veterinary Centre.

Over the last few years Francis’ clinical role has become shared with management and he is now Clinical Director, with particular responsibilities for Clinical Governance, Health and Safety and all aspects of managing the primary care team.

At home, Francis lives with a ginger cat who protests on an hourly basis that he’s not been fed for days and a Springer Spaniel who is convinced he is still a puppy despite imminently approaching his 16th birthday. In his free time, he likes to travel and to visit the cinema with his family, largely watching intellectually improving films involving superheroes and spaceships.

He has an entirely healthy interest in classic and modern Doctor Who, enjoys snowboarding and scuba diving and was persuaded to take up running a few years ago. He drags his son along to ParkRun at the weekends and has (slowly) competed in 10k, half-marathon and (one) marathon. His ultimate aim is to complete the London Marathon for charity and in a decent time (so he never needs to do it again)!
